School Board announces new Superintendent
The Hopkinton School Board is excited to announce Michael Flynn as the new Superintendent of Schools effective July 1, 2021. Mr. Flynn lives in Windham with his wife and three children. For the past eight years, he has been part of the Timberlane and Hampstead School District community, most recently serving as Executive Director of 21st Century Learning, Assessment, overseeing curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology. Mr. Flynn holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Business Education, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision.
Beyond his educational, business, and school district leadership experience, however, Mike is an incredibly hard working, dedicated individual, eager to help champion the Hopkinton School District forward, building upon our strengths and tackling our challenges. He prides himself in always being able to see the good in people, as well as his communication and relationship-building skill sets.
Mike will be transitioning into the district throughout the spring, so he can hit the ground running come July. Please be sure to extend him a warm welcome virtually, over email, or in person, once we are able to be out and about again safely!
Superintendent Search Screening Committee
Providing a high-quality education for Hopkinton children is the ongoing mission of the School Board. One of our most important tasks in achieving that mission is the selection of the superintendent of schools. With the upcoming departure of Superintendent Steve Chamberlin at the end of this school year, it is critical that the Board hire a high-quality candidate who will continue to foster the outstanding education for which the Hopkinton schools are known.
The Board is seeking community assistance in completing this important task by forming a Hopkinton Superintendent Screening Committee. We hope to comprise this Committee of a broad cross-section of our community, including teachers, administrators, parents, and community-at-large members. As a member of this Committee, you will be expected to attend 2-3 meetings (either virtually or in-person depending on the prevailing safety guidelines) in which you will be asked to review applications and to predict which candidates are likely to be a good fit in our community.
The members of the Hopkinton Superintendent Screening Committee will work with our consultants from Hazard, Young, Attea Associates to provide the School Board with a final slate of candidates for the Board to consider during a formal interview process. While the Board will make the ultimate hiring decision, the Committee’s work will help ensure that the process reflects the values, goals, and needs of our community.
Attendance at both meetings listed below is mandatory to serve on the Hopkinton Superintendent Screening Committee. A third meeting may be needed but will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time for all members of the committee.
Meeting #1: October 20, 2020, 6:30 pm, https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88245184468
Meeting #2: December 8, 2020, 6:30 pm, location to be determined
If you are interested in serving on the Hopkinton Superintendent Screening Committee, please send an email to saframe@sau66.org. In that email, please provide a short explanation of why you are interested in serving on the Committee. Requests to volunteer must be received by no later than 5 pm on October 12, 2020. The Board will select Committee members so that the Committee represents the various groups described above.
Best Regards,
Seth R. Aframe, School Board Member and Co-chair of Superintendent Selection Process
Superintendent Search
Dear Parents, Guardians and Guests, As many of you are probably aware, Mr. Chamberlin, our Superintendent announced his departure in June. We thank Mr. Chamberlin for everything that he’s accomplished on behalf of our children during his long and distinguished career. The members of the Hopkinton School Board are working with Hazard, Young, Attea Associates to conduct an executive search for the district’s successor superintendent. An important part of the search process involves listening to the ideas of community leaders and stakeholder groups in order to compile a Leadership Profile. This Leadership Profile will include the characteristics desired in the next superintendent and will be published for use during the recruiting and interviewing process. The information learned in these sessions will assist the members of the Hopkinton School Board to make this important decision based on the values and concerns of our community. As an important member of our community, you are invited to participate in this conversation. There will be two opportunities to meet. The first session is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. and the second session is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. While participation is voluntary, we hope that you can join either of these discussions at the following link: Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86738025031 Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85033205793 If you are unable to attend the scheduled meeting but would like to provide the School Board with input, please provide this information on our survey found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Hopkintonsd.
