Hello Everyone:

I hope you had a wonderful break. Thank you for your understanding of  
the revision to the school calendar. I hope the January 3/10 change  
did not cause too much inconvenience.

The purpose of this email to provide an update on important school  
district information.

2012- 2013 Hopkinton School District Calendar

A few highlights:
The calendar concentrates Professional Development days before school  
begins (the first day of school for students is after Labor Day) and  
in December students will have a two week break.
The calendar dramatically increases the number of five instructional  
day weeks providing continuity for instruction.
The practice of a fixed end of school date continues. School will end  
no later than June 21, 2012. The Calendar Committee will be developing  
strategies to address a significantly higher than typical number of  
days cancelled due to weather.
Parent/guardian Teacher Conference Day will take place on Tuesday,  
November 6, 2012 (Election Day) for all students. Middle school  
students will have an additional parent/guardian Teacher Conference  
Day on Monday, November 5, 2012.
The calendar does not include early release days.

Hopkinton School District FY13 Budget

A few highlights:
The Hopkinton School Board approved a $17,024,395 budget for FY13.  
This amount represents a 2.89% increase over the FY12 budget.
Significant budget increases include 	-
Benefits: $147, 570/health insurance, $34,576/dental insurance, and  
$91,568/retirement
Utilities: $34,795/heating oil, $12,912/electricity
The budget contains support for creation of a k - 6 numeracy  
specialist at a cost of $75,884.
The budget does not include increases in teacher salaries as the HEA  
and the school board are currently in negotiations.

Tuesday, January 10: Professional Development Day - no school for all  
students

(2nd) to the Hopkinton Budget Committee, Hopkinton Town Hall, 5:30pm

Wednesday, January 25: Hopkinton Budget Committee Deliberations,  
Hopkinton Town Hall, 5:30pm

Wednesday, February 8: Hopkinton Budget Committee Public Hearing,  
Hopkinton Middle and High School auditorium, 6:30pm

Saturday, March 17: Hopkinton School District Annual Meeting,  
Hopkinton Middle and High Schools gymnasium, 9:00am.
