Dear Parents of Kindergarten Children:

Greetings from Harold Martin School. This letter is being sent to all Hopkinton families of Kindergarten aged children, at least those we are aware of, as I have some exciting news to announce. On Monday night June 4, the Hopkinton School Board gave the green light to develop a pilot Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) program to begin this fall. To be specific, our plan is to establish two traditional half day sessions taught by Mrs. Blanchard in the morning and afternoon, and one full day session taught by Mrs. Duval.

The class make-up of the FDK will be much like our current preschool program. Our main goal is to provide academic intervention for a core of our kindergarten students (about half of the class) who need the most assistance. We will offer those students a seat in our program based on data gathered from our kindergarten screening as well as information we have from those students who were in our preschool program. Our school team will make these placement decisions soon.

The other half of the FDK class will be comprised of children who do not need special academic support. Parents can choose to select the FDK option but will be charged tuition for half a day. Assuming we have more requests for FDK than slots, we will do a lottery utilizing the same policy we have for our preschool selection. I will know the tuition amount soon.

We invite all parents of kindergarten aged children to attend a meeting to answer your questions about the new FDK program as well as HMS kindergarten in general. The meeting is June 12 in our preschool room at HMS from 6:30-7:30 PM.

In addition, if you would like to be considered for the tuition based FDK, please email me by June 14. My email address is wcarozza at hopkintonschools.org. Look for my reply to your email to be sure your child's name is entered into the lottery. Please include your address and phone number, the name of your child, and their gender.

I know the timeline is tight, but our goal is to mail Kindergarten placement letters by the end of the school year. I also apologize for the general lateness of this information but with the process leading up to Monday's meeting, it just was not possible.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting on June 12. If you cannot make the meeting or if you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to call me at 746-3473 or send me an email.

Sincerely,

Bill
