DI for HMS students? YES!

Did you know that there is a Destination Imagination program geared
specifically for K-3 students? It's called "Rising Stars," (not to
be confused with Reaching for the Stars, the HMS enrichment
program!). Rising Stars is strictly a no-pressure, just-for-fun DI
experience! The challenge is written specifically for this age
group, and the creativity tools are designed with the younger
elementary students in mind!

If you're interested in talking about the DI "Rising Stars" program
or in registering your child, please contact Carrie Thompson or Carol
Sabol to register for a team. We will have at least one team from
Harold Martin!

VISITING AUTHOR MARTY KELLY COMING NEXT TUESDAY

This year, children’s author and illustrator Marty Kelley will
visit Harold Martin School next Tuesday, November 15th. Marty will
spend the day with students showing his artwork and talking about the
process of writing and illustrating. He is a captivating and
entertaining presenter. He will also do a community presentation that
evening in the school Music Room at 6:30 p.m. Teachers are preparing
children for this visit by reading Marty’s books. Since Marty’s books
focus on the seasons, classes are finishing special trees displayed
outside the classroom in anticipation of this annual event at our
school.
No books will be available to purchase before the visit.
Families will have the opportunity to order books the night of the
presentation or on a form to be distributed by classroom teachers
after the visit. As always, the author will personalize books if you
wish and deliver them to the school. Marty’s books are
available in hardcover only.
We will also be holding a raffle this year in connection with
the Author visit. Items have already been donated by the following:

Gift certificates from:
Beech Hill Farms
Gould Hill Farm
Stone Falls Gardens
Wal-Mart
Bella/Little Hedgehog
French’s Greenhouse

Maple Syrup from the Chapin and
      Bohannan families
Christmas trees from Scammon’s
Holiday Wreaths from Rossview Farm

I hope you have a chance to enjoy the long weekend and with the pace
most of us lead, it’s a real gift to have an extra day. Thursday of
this week is our parent conference day, with no school for children,
and Friday is Veteran’s Day, an important holiday to observe,
especially given the sacrifices of our men and women in the Middle
East and around the world.

The big event is next week, with visiting author Marty Kelly making
an appearance on Tuesday. I hope to see many of you there.

Have a great weekend,

Bill Carozza
Principal

COMMUNITY NEWS
Events listed under Community News do not necessarily indicate
endorsement from Harold Martin School or the Hopkinton School
District but are provided as a community service.

There will be a meeting with NH Dept. of
Transportation personnel regarding the Route 202/9 corridor project
on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 9:00am at the Hopkinton Town
Hall. This will be a follow-up to the September 13th public hearing.

At the September meeting several of us proposed ideas (like a left-
turn lane onto Stumpfield, changing speed limits, etc.), brought up
safety concerns and got a sense of the issues from the state and
local law enforcement representatives who were there.
