HAWK News for the week of 5-20-11

 Hopkinton Middle High School Mission

  · We foster a learning environment that is safe, supportive, and respectful.

  · We promote personal integrity, intellectual curiosity, and civic responsibility.

  · We provide traditional and innovative opportunities for students to maximize their potential.

Yesterday I spent a good portion of the day with our 7th and 8th grade students at a New Hampshire Fisher Cats baseball game. It was Education Day at the park and there were several middle schools at the game. The weather held off better then the Mets, as the ‘Cats had a resounding win. For my part however, it was easy to see that the real winners were all of the students and staff who participated. I was extremely impressed by all of our students, who had a great time, and represented our school and community so well. This event could not have happened without the help of the Fisher Cat organization, and more importantly, without the work and support of our dedicated middle level teachers.

This Thursday, May 26, is our Annual Awards Night. The celebration of student achievements begins at 6 pm as we honor students in grades 9 through 11, then continues with the Senior Class awards at 7:15. Please come and celebrate with us.

The Senior Class will be “zipping” away on Tuesday, May 24, to Lincoln NH to experience a mountainside Zip line ride. The class trip will culminate with a BBQ by the beach in Laconia. Students are expected to return back to school at 9 pm.

On Friday we will have an early release day for students. Students will be dismissed from school at noontime. This will allow staff to spend a few hours working on refining our competencies, power standards, and assessments. I thank you for your support of this very valuable professional development time.

It seems that April showers have made their way into May. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that those May flowers get the sunshine they deserve. Enjoy the weekend.

Are you or someone you care about having a problem? Are you unable or uncomfortable to come into school to communicate it? The middle school guidance office has a private phone line where individuals can leave a confidential message about a non-academic student issue.

COMMUNITY NEWS

PTA MEETINGS

PTA Meetings are the first Thursday of each month. Meetings are held at 6:30pm at Harold Martin School

Dial-A-Ride Volunteers Needed

Dial A Ride is a volunteer service organization that was started by the Hopkinton Woman's Club over 30 years ago. Our purpose is to transport the elderly in our community to medical and dental appointments in Hopkinton and Contoocook as well as to the Concord area. We are in need of drivers to help us out. You would usually be called only once a month to help and it is Monday through Friday, no weekends involved. Normally you can drop the client at their appointment and do any errands yourself. Feel free to drop by our office at the Slusser Senior Center Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 10 am to 12 noon or call Cathy Rothwell at 746-4364, Pat Dawson at 746-5547, or Danielle Meserve at 746-6866 if you have any questions.

Thanks again!

Danielle
