Hawk News for the week of 1/7/11

HOPKINTON MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL MISSIO

We foster a learning environment that is safe, supportive, and respectful.

We promote personal integrity, intellectual curiosity, and civic

responsibility. We provide traditional and innovative opportunities for students to maximize their potential.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday season. With snow in the forecast, I’m sure the skiers and snowboarders are excited to get out on the slopes this weekend.

In our efforts to increase communication and support for our students and their families, next semester our school will be opening our new “Family Portal”. This will allow parents and students to log onto our website from a secure Internet connection and have access to their own grades and attendance information. This is a new technological feature for Hopkinton Middle High School, however other schools in New Hampshire have utilized similar features with great success. It is extremely secure and more information we will be setting up an introduction evening and supports for families before going live.

Tuesday, January 11th, is a “C” Day. Classes will not begin until 8:55 AM on that day. Busses will still pick up students at the usual time in the morning to bring them to school. There will be several opportunities for students to participate in once they get to school, as the theme for the morning is “Expression”. Zumba will be offered in the gym, the Media Center will be open, and there will be an open mic in the auditorium for students to perform music, commentary or recite poetry.

There is no school on Monday, January 17, 2011.

Mid term exams for high school students are right around the corner. January 21st and 24th are set aside for Day 2 exams and on January 26th & 27th Day 1 exams will be administered. Please be aware that there is no school for students in grades 9 through 12 on Friday, January 28th. The second semester for the high school will start on January 31st

As I come to a close and as it is the beginning to a new year I’ll leave you with this:

'No problem can be solved by the same consciousness that created it. We need to see the world anew.' Albert Einstein

THE 20-20 LINE

Are you or someone you care about having a problem? Are you unable or uncomfortable to come into school to communicate it? The middle school guidance office has a private phone line where individuals can leave a confidential message about a non-academic student issue.

The guidance counselor will listen to the message and determine the appropriate avenue of help. This is a great way to seek support

for yourself or someone you care about. It’s simple. Just call the 20-20 line (746-2020) and leave a message.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Dial-A-Ride Volunteers Needed

Dial A Ride is a volunteer service organization that was started by the Hopkinton Woman's Club over 30 years ago. Our purpose is to transport the elderly in our community to medical and dental appointments in Hopkinton and Contoocook as well as to the Concord area. We are in need of drivers to help us out. You would usually be called only once a month to help and it is Monday through Friday, no weekends involved. Normally you can drop the client at their appointment and do any errands yourself. Feel free to drop by our office at the Slusser Senior Center Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 10 am to 12 noon or call Cathy Rothwell at 746-4364, Pat Dawson at 746-5547, or Danielle Meserve at 746-6866 if you have any questions.

Thanks again!

Danielle
