HAWK News for the week of 10-1-10

Hopkinton Middle High School Mission

  · We foster a learning environment that is safe, supportive, and respectful.

  · We promote personal integrity, intellectual curiosity, and civic responsibility.

  · We provide traditional and innovative opportunities for students to maximize their potential.

Its Homecoming weekend and our school has been buzzing with spirit. Unfortunately due to high winds and rain, the parade and bon-fire have been cancelled. While this is sad, the safety and well being of our students always takes precedent. We did enjoy a great Pep-rally and we are hoping for a great day tomorrow for our athletic events. The annual Homecoming dance concludes the weekend’s events and will run from 7:30 - 10 pm. Homecoming is a special celebration, not only for our current students, but also for those who are returning to celebrate. The idea of homecoming is to remind us that we can always come home and that being a son or daughter of Hopkinton is something that stays with you for your entire life.

Starting on October 7th, Thursday afternoons (from 2:50 until 4pm) will once again be “Open Studio” time in the art room for students in grades 9 -12. Open Studio is an opportunity for students to work in any medium of their choice in a fun and supportive atmosphere. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jim Kociuba.

Project Graduation at Hopkinton High School is a long-standing tradition that provides a safe and substance free environment for our graduates to celebrate their accomplishments. Organizing this event takes commitment and assistance from our community and parents, and we need your help. If you are a senior parent or grandparent, or if you are interested in learning more about how you can help, please contact Terry Grady - tgrady at hopkintonschools.org for further information.

The RedHawks Football team has had a great start to their year and is undefeated. This community team, made up of students from several towns, many from Hopkinton, will be taking on the Seacoast Titans in a double header this Sunday at 1pm at Houston Field. It has meant a great deal to the players to have the support they have had and they want to thank the 200 or so people who attend their home games regularly. Best of luck boys!

Students in Ms. Walton’s Journalism class are once again contributing and editing their e-zine, “The Taon” at http://hawkstalon.blogspot.com/ The young journalists have added a bunch of new stories featuring articles about our homecoming events. If you have any ideas or would like to comment on the Talon, please feel free to contact Ms. Walton. Enjoy the stories.

I wish you all the best this week. Take care,
Chris Sousa, Principal

COMMUNITY NEWS

Dial-A-Ride Volunteers Needed

Dial A Ride is a volunteer service organization that was started by the Hopkinton Woman's Club over 30 years ago. Our purpose is to transport the elderly in our community to medical and dental appointments in Hopkinton and Contoocook as well as to the Concord area. We are in need of drivers to help us out. You would usually be called only once a month to help and it is Monday through Friday, no weekends involved. Normally you can drop the client at their appointment and do any errands yourself. Feel free to drop by our office at the Slusser Senior Center Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 10 am to 12 noon or call Cathy Rothwell at 746-4364, Pat Dawson at 746-5547, or Danielle Meserve at 746-6866 if you have any questions.

Thanks again!

Danielle
