HOPKINTON MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL MISSION

We foster a learning environment that is safe, supportive, and
respectful.
We promote personal integrity, intellectual curiosity, and civic
responsibility. We provide traditional and innovative opportunities
for students to maximize their potential.

As a sports fan, I am at a loss without the New England Patriots in
the hunt for another Super Bowl title. It has been enjoyable to watch
the continued success of the Boston Celtics and to see how well the
Boston Bruins have been performing.

The snow has been piling up around my house and with warmer weather on
the way, I’ll look forward to seeing some melting so I can see out
the end of my driveway. The middle school had the opportunity to go to
Loon Mountain this past Thursday, the day after several inches fell
over the state. Everyone had an enjoyable day, as the weather was
perfect!

Preparations for the eighth annual Celebration of the Arts has begun.
Students will be invited to participate in this wonderful event on
Tuesday, March 31 at the middle high school. Artists of all kinds are
welcome, whether you perform alone or with others (trio, duet, band,
theater group, chorus, jazz ensemble, etc.). Your help and interest
is needed to make the evening sparkle, so please come forward. The
next COTA meeting is scheduled for February 12 at 3:15 pm at Maple
Street School. If you have any questions about this event you can
contact Mike Alberici at Maple Street School.

The high school Winter Ball will take place on Saturday night at
Harold Martin School. The dance will be from 7:30 – 10:30 pm.
Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00.

If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday, January 31, the
Rotary Nordic Ski race will be taking place at the Fairgrounds. The
race starts at 11:00 am.

On Monday, February 2, Dan Meserve and I will be taking ten of our
female athletes to participate in the 2009 Female Scholar Athlete
Awards in Concord. I look forward to attending this event every
year. It is wonderful to see our students get recognized for their
hard work and effort.

Looking ahead, the middle school will be having a Valentine Day Semi-
Formal on February 7. The dance will be from 7:30 – 10:30 pm and
will be held at the middle high school. Mrs. McClellan will be host
another night of poetry during the “Poetry Out Loud” event
scheduled for February 12 at 6:30 pm in the high school library.

As I come to a close and as it is the beginning to a new year, I’ll
leave you with this:

Upon the subject of education, not presuming to dictate any plan or
system respecting it, I can only say that I view it as the most
important subject, which we as a people may be engaged in.
