We foster a learning environment that is safe, supportive, and
respectful.

We promote personal integrity, intellectual curiosity, and civic
responsibility.

We provide traditional and innovative opportunities for students to
maximize their potential.

Thoughts from along the adventure:

The week began with the school community watching the presidential
inauguration. It is not often that the entire school community shares
an experience. The students and staff were riveted to the ceremony.
The refocus on civic responsibility and the importance of the event
will make this experience a tradition every four years.

A peanut scare has been in the news the last week or so. Tracy Barker,
our food service director, has reviewed all products in the schools.
None of the products of concern are in the schools.

Due to the bridge construction, a couple of the bus routes have
changed. The changes involve 91 and 96 afternoon runs, and a stop
from 97 has been placed on bus 98. The bus routes (including those
that are revised) are described at the link below:

It is hard to believe that the second half of the year is almost upon
us. The “Learning is it” theme has initiated discussions about
time and support for young people. Study halls and after school
support will be a focus to the beginning of the second half of the
year. We are going to do our best to create a climate of learning in
our study halls and encourage students to utilize the after school
support. Your reinforcement of the importance of learning, the use of
class time, and utilizing after school support would be appreciated.

The school board recently approved the 2009 – 2010 Program of
Studies. A letter will be sent home outlining the steps to creating
the master schedule in the next week or so.

With mid term exams and the middle school Winter Carnival, it’s a
busy and exciting time in our schools. It is hard to believe that
half the year is over already.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Thank you for your support.

Steve Chamberlin
Principal

GREENER HOPKINTON

Greener Hopkinton is hosting the first of its new Sustainable Speaker
Series on Sunday, January 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 in the Town Library's
Community Room.

Hopkinton residents, Tom and Emilie Burack, will speak on "Greening
Your Home". They will share some of the actions they've taken in
their home to shrink their carbon footprint -- from weatherization and
installation of solar photovoltaic cells to recycling and changing the
way their family uses energy. The Buracks want to make this an
interactive meeting and will encourage attendees to share ideas on
what they are doing in their own homes. Hot cider, cookies and other
snacks will be served at the end of the gathering.

Tom Burack is Commissioner of the NH Department of Environmental
Services and past board member and chair of the Audubon Society's
Board of Directors. Emilie Burack is taking a break from a marketing
career and is busy raising their young family and greening the Burack
home.

Name NASA's Next Mars Rover

Two weeks left to name NASA’s next Mars rover by January 25, 2009!

NASA is inviting students in grades K-12 to help name the rover for the

K-12

built it. The winner will also have the chance to sign his or her
name on the rover prior to its launch. Students 13 and younger must
submit a mail-in form with a parent/guardian
