HOPKINTON MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL MISSION
We foster a learning environment that is safe, supportive, and
respectful.
We promote personal integrity, intellectual curiosity, and civic
responsibility.
We provide traditional and innovative opportunities for students to
maximize their potential.
Winter is back and with it comes snow. On Saturday, February 11, the
“Winter Ball” will be held at Harold Martin School. The dance starts
at 7:30 PM and will conclude at 11:00 PM. Because of the location of
the dance, I would like to encourage our students to carpool, as
parking at Harold Martin School is limited. We have not had a dance
recently. We would like to remind students of our expectations for
student dress and behavior. In accordance with school policy and to
ensure student safety, a police officer and a breathalyzer will be at
the dance. We would appreciate your help in reinforcing our school
policies and concerns for safety by having a discussion with your
youngsters prior to the dance. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, and
special night for all. Weather reports indicate that a possible
significant snowstorm may move into the area on Saturday night. In the
event that the dance needs to be postponed, parents and students can
call 746-NEWS (6397) to get information. Mr. Chamberlin will also send
an email regarding whether or not the dance has been postponed.
On Friday, February 10, Mr. Chamberlin and I hosted our second “Pizza
With The Principals.” It is always interesting to get the perspective
of our new students and see Hopkinton Middle High School through their
eyes.
The eighth grade class traveled to Central High School in Manchester on
Thursday to see the play “Anne Frank,” which was enjoyable for
everyone. Our eighth graders just finished reading “The Diary of Anne
Frank.”
Both the girls and boys basketball teams have had a successful season.
The playoffs are around the corner and I’m looking forward to seeing
our teams make it to the next level of competition. The girl’s playoff
schedule is 2/23, 2/26, 2/28, 3/4. The boy’s playoff schedule is 3/2,
3/5, 3/8, 3/11.
Skiing championships scheduled for the week of the 13th are as follows:
HS Nordic 2/13; HS girls alpine 2/14; MS alpine 2/15; HS boys alpine
2/16; ski jumping 2/17; and MS Nordic 2/20.
Preparations for the fifth annual Celebration of the Arts has begun.
We’re calling all student musicians, artists, performers, singers,
dancers, poets and writers! You're invited to participate in this
wonderful event on Thursday, March 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the
middle/high school. Artists of all kinds are welcome, whether you
perform alone or with others (trio, duet, band, theater group, chorus,
jazz ensemble, etc.). We need your help and interest to make the
evening sparkle, so please come forward. If you would like to perform
or showcase your artistic talent, please give me a call @ 746-4167,
ext. 223.
As I come to a close I’ll leave you with this:
'We are born trying to gain power over our environment. We live and
die trying to figure out who we are; what life means; how to understand
joy, pain, victory, and death; how we relate to each other; and why we
are here. The disciplines we study- art music, literature, mathematics,
science or philosophy- give us lenses... the skills... the power to use
the understandings in meaningful ways.' Phenix 1986

MESSAGE FROM THE CLASS OF 2009
We need your help…
The freshmen class is looking for parents to help with refreshments for
the remainder of the basketball season including the first round of
playoffs. The following dates need coverage: Feb. 14, 17, 21, 23, and
March 2. An adult needs to be present in order to have students sell
refreshments. Mr. Renauld’s commitment to the US First Robotic
Competition will limit the amount of time he will be available. The
last games of the season and tournament games can be very successful
fundraisers. If we do not have parental coverage the class will lose
out on this fund raising opportunity. Please contact Mr. Renauld,
Class Advisor, at 746-4167, ext. 268 if you can help with coverage.
Thank you!
