Thoughts from along the adventure:
The cool, crisp, fall air is here just in time for our Homecoming celebration.
It is so much fun to be out on the field in the beautiful weather watching the
games, the alumni, and all the faculty?s ?little people? playing
together. It is one of the best times to be the Principal of Hopkinton Middle
and High Schools.
There has been an outpouring of congratulations regarding the NCLB Blue Ribbon
Award. This truly is a district/community award. The efforts of so many
people: parents/guardians, teachers/instructional assistants at all the
schools, and of course the students, have created the culture of achievement
that makes recognitions such as the Blue Ribbon Award possible. Thank you for
all your support.
I have had the pleasure of ?walking through? almost every classroom and
doing formal observations of some of our new teachers. I am very impressed
with the work in the classrooms and the smooth transitions of our new staff.
The new staff members are great additions to our school.
We have finished the fall version of the district?s MAP (Measure of Academic
Progress) testing. We will begin the state mandated NECAP (New England Common
Assessment Program) test for the seventh and eight graders next week. I hope
the students can keep up their energy for a few more days of testing.
The 7th graders will be taking their trip to environmental camp next week. The
three days at Cardigan Mountain are wonderful experiences for the youngsters.
I will be joining them for a climb up the mountain late next week. Earlier in
the week I will be participating on an NEASC (New England Schools and Colleges)
accreditation team at Epping High School. I look forward to the in depth work
evaluating a high school and bringing back important information for our site
visit which occurs during April 2?5, 2006. (Please mark your calendars for
the NEASC visit, as parent participation is essential to the NEASC process.)
I hope I get a chance to see you at Georges Park enjoying the beautiful fall
weather, a hot dog and successful athletic contests this weekend.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Eastern Equine Encephalitis
Eastern Equine Encephalitis is an uncommon but serious disease caused by EEE
virus. EEE is an arbovirus (short for arthropod-borne, meaning spread by
insects). The virus can be transmitted to horses, other animals, and, in rare
cases, people.
How can EEE be prevented?
If possible, stay inside between dusk and dark when mosquitoes are most active.
When outside between dusk and dark, wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts.
Use an insect repellent with DEET according to the manufacturer?s directions,
put screens on windows, and eliminate standing water from your property.
For information about Eastern Equine Encephalitis, call the New Hampshire
Department of Health and Human Services Communicable Disease Control Section at
603-271-4496 or 800-852-3345 ext. 4496 or visit their website at www.dhhs.nh.gov
or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at www.cdc.gov.
