A message from the Assistant Principal:

"If we do not expect the unexpected, we will never find it."
								--
Albert Einstein

Although our middle school students may seem "all grown up" as they
enter into the middle/high school, they still need frequent reminders
to wear a heavy coat, gloves, and perhaps even a hat as the
temperatures get colder. The meteorologists guarantee some snowfall
this weekend, which is typically the first sign that we can expect
colder and colder temps as the winter months progress. Middle school
students should also be reminded to lock up valuable items in their
lockers. While we like to think that students would not take other
students belongings, it is always a safe bet to keep items locked up.
If items brought to school are too large to fit into a locker,
students are encouraged to leave bags and gear in my office. Items
will be safe there all day long!

Seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students will be concluding their
MAP assessment testing next Friday. As a reminder, the testing is
being offered as another way to support individual growth in the
areas of math and English. The district will be providing follow-up
training to our participating teachers as soon as we can schedule it
in order to give them support in analyzing the test data. Teachers
will then be given the opportunity to meet together to not only
discuss the test itself, but to discuss the many ways that the
results can be used to inform instruction. We hope in the end that we
will find that the MAP assessment provides yet another way to assess
student achievement in a positive way.

The Drama Club will be presenting a night of one-act plays on
November 19 and 20, 2004 at 8:00 pm in our auditorium. Our young
thespians are working very hard to put forth a wonderful night of
performances. We hope that you will join us for a night of excellent
theatre!

Please be reminded that parent/teacher conferences are taking place
next week. Conference dates and times are as follows: November 23
from 1:30-6:00 pm and November 24 from 9:00-11:00 am. If you need to
schedule an appointment with a high school teacher, please contact
Main Office Manager Jean Eaton at 746-4167 x222. If you need to make
an appointment with a middle school teacher, please call Guidance
Office Manager Anne Whiting directly in the guidance office at
746-2502.

I hope you have a great weekend!

provide more opportunities for our students.

email Dave Chase at dchase at hopkintonschools.org.

Thank you for your support.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DAY: NOVEMBER 20th

Want to keep lead and other toxins out of the environment? You can
help by disposing of your unwanted computer or other electronic items
in an environmentally responsible way. Did you know that computer
monitors and televisions could contain from 2 to 8 pounds of lead,
which could easily end up in our air and water if not disposed of
properly?

On Saturday, November 20, bring your old electronics to the
Hopkinton/Webster Transfer Station between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m. for Electronics Recycling Day. There will be a small fee to
cover the costs of safely processing the toxic compounds in the items
you drop off. Take advantage of this special event organized by the
Hopkinton/Webster Recycling Committee to do your part for the
environment. What better way to cap off the week that begins with
America Recycles Day?
