Thoughts from the Adventure:

It's hard to believe that the first quarter of the 2004-2005 school
year ends today.

Last weekend was extraordinary with our school winning three state
championships in three days. The boys and girls cross country teams
and the girls soccer team competed in glorious fashion as they won
their state championships. The school spirit displayed at these
events was incredible. Congratulations to the athletes and their
families; a state championship is not possible without years of
family support.

This weekend, parents and guardians of middle school students will be
receiving a letter describing the pilot program of a redesigned
middle school honor roll. The new honor roll requirements include
work ethic and academic honesty. Please feel free to email me with
your thoughts about the new honor roll at
schamberlin at hopkintonschools.org.

Last week, several community members drove by our challenge course
and saw a few of our staff members 50 feet high in a tree. Twelve
staff members were trained in the use of our seven-element course
which includes a new high element. I look forward to the growing
influence of experiential education within our curriculum.

Next week we have scheduled a fire drill which will include a
complete evacuation of school property. This drill is in preparation
for an emergency during the cold winter months. The Safety Security
and Crisis Team Steering Committee has encouraged schools to drill
these evacuations. Please do not be alarmed if you see middle and
high school students walking down the street - it's just a drill.

Due to the generous support of a community member, we are beginning
an American Sign Language Club. Students and staff will have the
opportunity to learn basic American Sign Language on Fridays. It
will be a great opportunity for staff and students to learn together.

Soon the concert and play season will be upon us. The middle school
holiday concert is December 8 and the high school holiday is December
15. I hope you will get a chance to see our students display their
incredible talents in the performing arts.

Also, I am pleased to announce the implementation of a District
initiative that begins on Monday. For the first time, middle school
students will be participating in health class. Mrs. Connolly is
excited to begin this new course.

Have a great weekend!

Principal
